indigo

Die letzte Woche war von Färbereien bestimmt. Vor ca 3 Wochen hatte ich eine neue Fermentationsküpe angesetzt (mit Krapp/Soda/Weizenkleie und natürlich Indigo) und seit letzter Woche ist sie nun soweit. Einfach nur blau machen ist doof, also wurde abgebunden und gefärbt. Das nette Stück Stoff mit den eingebundenen Korken und den Muttern ist eine alte Baumwolltischdecke (oder Halbleinen, das weiß ich nicht so genau) mit irgendeiner Hohlsaumstickerei dazwischen. Eigentlich ganz nett, aber ich will den Stoff für ein Hemd und da passte mir die Originalfarbe (ein ausgewaschenes Gelb) nicht wirklich. Also Blau.

Last week was assigned for dyeing. About 3 weeks ago, I initiated a new indigo fermentation vat (madder/bran/soda) and last week it was ready for dyeing. Just blue is boring, so I bound and tied and dyed. The nice piece of fabric below is some old table cloth from the 60s in cotton (or halflinen, I wasn't able to determine) with some drawn thread embroidery, I really like. But the original colour (some faded yellow) was not to my taste for the designated shirt, so it turned blue.

Hemdenrecycling / shirt reuse

ich kaufe mir ja kaum neue Klamotten. Die meisten meiner Kleidungsstücke habe ich entweder von dem besten aller Männer geerbt oder aus dem 2nd hand-Laden, einige nähe ich mir auch selbst. Dieses Hemd ist ein Erbstück. Es war mal weiß und hatte einen normalen Kragen. Diese Krägen mag ich nicht, also sind die das erste was verschwindet und durch einen kleinen Stehkragen ersetzt wird. Dann weiß ... naja. Ist eigentlich keine Farbe in meinen Augen. Also in die WaMa und mit Simplicol gefärbt. Diesmal kam es aber so irgendwie rosa raus, nicht dunkelbeere, wie ich gehofft hatte. Auch nicht mein Geschmack. Also in die Küpe und blau drüber. Ein bisschen scheint das rosa (nun dunkler) noch durch, aber das sieht ganz gut aus. Als nächstes müssen noch die Knöpfe entfernt und durch hübschere ersetzt werden. Und dann schau ich mal, ob ich es noch ein bisschen einnähe und tailliere oder ob ich es dann so trage.

Most of my textiles are inherited from DH, come from 2nd hand stores and some are sewn by me. This shirt is a typical example for DH inheritance. It was white and had a standard collar, which I really don't like. This usually is the first to go. It was replaced by a smallish stand-up collar. Next thing was a round in the washing machine with Simplicol (that's a washing machine dye for cellulose fibres). Instead of the expected blackberry darkish red, it turned out more pinkish. Not exactly my colour. So off it went into the vat. Now the pink shimmers through a bit in some parts, it is motled and rather nice. Next thing to go are the buttons, which are simple white plastic ones, boring. And then I think about sewing it in a bit at the waist.
